Reels or multi-game: choosing your machine
Facing a row of machines, the question always comes up: which one? No machine wins more often than another because of where it stands or because it has not paid for a while. Some machines do suit your budget, the time you want to play and what you enjoy in the game better than others.

Reel machines
This is the slot machine in its best-known form. Classic models have three reels and few paylines: the rules are clear at a glance. Video machines, often with five reels, add more lines, special symbols, free spins and bonus games.
If you are new to the game, a simple machine lets you understand how it works before moving on to richer games.
Multi-game machines
A multi-game machine brings several games together in one cabinet: you pick a game from the touch-screen menu, and can switch without changing seats. It is the machine for trying different themes and styles of play during the evening.
The gaming area at Epiphany has both reel machines and touch-screen multi-game machines.
How to choose
- By budget: look at the minimum bet per spin, and choose a machine that lets you play as long as you would like with the amount you have set aside.
- By pace: a low-volatility game gives more frequent, smaller wins, a high-volatility game rarer, bigger ones. The paytable often gives a hint.
- By taste: some prefer the simplicity of classic reels, others the animations and bonus games of video slots.
- By time: twenty minutes between dinner and the show, or part of the night.
If in doubt, ask the floor staff: they know the machines and can walk you through one before you bet.
What does not matter
- Where the machine stands in the room.
- Whether it has just paid or has paid nothing for a while.
- The time of night.
Every spin is drawn at random: none of these change the odds of a spin.
Frequently asked
- Which slot machine should a beginner choose?
- A simple machine, with few lines and a small minimum bet, lets you learn how it works without spending fast. The floor staff can show you one.
- Do multi-game machines pay less than reel machines?
- The cabinet says nothing about the wins: each game has its own rules and paytable, which you can open from the screen.
- Can I switch games during the evening?
- Yes: on a multi-game machine you change games from the menu, and you can also change machines.
